Howdy Cowboys/Cowgirls,

It was a nice day for shooting but a little chilly near the end but NO rain.  Thanks to everyone for helping with set up and tear down.

There’s a new Cowboy in town: Congratulations to Ripsaw as Overall match winner and to Cody Maverick as Jose Wales overall winner (mentioned that because so many shot Jose Wales). Congrats to Flatboat Bob, Ripsaw and One Eyed Jane for shooting CAD.

DON’T FORGET THERE WILL NOT BE A 4TH SATURDAY MATCH AT MATTAPONI IN NOVEMBER!!

Got congrats from a Cowboy today on the success of the “Shoot For A Cure” match and the gantlet has been dropped: They want us to raise $10,000 next year!!!  Better start saving up now.  None of it is possible without ALL of you wonderful people.  I will try if y’all will.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE AND TRAVEL SAFE!!

Smoke On The Mattaponi

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

Well, it’s that time again to not blow smoke but to shoot some smoke.  “Smoke On The Mattaponi”, the Virginia State Black Powder match will be held on June 22, 2019.  We plan a fun filled day of shooting a little black powder, sitting around the chuck wagon eating some good vittles and swapping stories. Prairie City Slim will be writing the stages for the match so we know that they will be challenging but fun.

Plans are to set up the range for the match the day before the match.  Gates will open at 0800, mandatory safety meeting at 0930 and shooting starts at 1000.  We will shoot 6 fun filled stages without a break then have lunch. As soon as the match is over we plan a hardy lunch that is included in your match fee and then range take down.  Once the range take down is finished we will have the awards ceremony.

All established categories are recognized but you must register for the match and your category before the registration deadline of June 7,2019.  You can still attend and shoot the match after that date but you will have to shoot in an established category in order to be eligible for an award.  Attached is an application for the “Smoke On The Mattaponi” match.  Please complete and return to Whiskey Mae as soon as possible.  We need everyone’s help in completing this and returning it as soon as possible so we can get an accurate head count for the lunch.  We want enough food but of course we don’t want to come up short or have a lot of left overs.

SASS requires that all shooters for this match must be a current SASS member in good standing.  Please make sure that your SASS alias is spelled correctly including that your SASS badge number is correct.  All shooters names must be submitted to SASS for approval prior to the match.

We are also accepting sponsorships for this match.  If you are interested in sponsoring a stage or any part of this match it will greatly appreciated.  We will be working hard for great sponsorship again this year.

We hope to see y’all at the match.

Mattaponi Sundowners: SHOOT FOR A CURE results

Howdy all Cowboys and Cowgirls,

WELL, YOU NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME!!!!!!  We raised over $8000 today, no typo here.   I will send out a total once I know it; I still have 2 people sending checks that haven’t arrived yet.  I’m still in SHOCK!!!!

I was a good day but I could have done without the wind.  I think I’m still shivering but I will have sweet dreams tonight and that will be soon.  Attached are the results and CAD.  Congrats to Cody Maverick as Overall match winner.  Congrats to Bucksaw Bob, Flatboat Bob, Hotshod, Kid At Heart, One Eyed Jane and Smackwater for shooting CAD.  Everyone today was a winner in my book and today MY book is the  one that counts.

This money will be spent for a good cause and will help provide many needs for cancer, from Research to ground level helping the patient. I also wanted to let y’all know that the person that won the Green Top gift card/shotgun was the one that was meant to have it, his wife is having surgery tomorrow.  I had a good feeling when I talked with him, without knowing anything about him.

Don’t forget Sussex County Range Wars next weekend and will see y’all there.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR GIVING SPIRIT AND WARM HEARTS!!!

Sassy

Mattaponi Sundowners: “Shoot For A Cure”

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

It’s that time, yes; we are getting ready for our annual Breast Cancer match, “Shoot For A Cure”.  This match will be October 21, 2018 so please mark your calendars accordingly.

We are working hard to make this a GREAT match and with lots of wonderful things for raffle, auction and for sale.  As in the past, this match is one that everyone pays to shoot (including members of WPGC).  ALL money collected in shooting fees, raffle/auction and sale items will be donated to an area Relay For Life team.  West Point Gun Club is also donating $5 for every shooter that will preregister and attend the match.  West Point Gun Club will NOT make a or keep a penny of any money, it is all donated.

I’ve gotten the match written and I think it will be fun. All 3 bays will be used with 2 stages in each bay.  We will recognize the winner of each category at the end of the match.  Scores will be done as soon as the match is over while the bays are being broken down.  We will also announce the amount collected and donated.  There have been times in the past that more money was received after the match but you will be updated as to the total amount once it’s known.

Just a hint of things to look forward to, we have 2 guns to raffle and many more wonderful things.

To preregister: email Whiskey Mae at Whiskeymae1@gmail.com with Cowboy Alias and Category

No money needs to be sent now but if you can’t make it to the match and would like to donate, please make checks payable to the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY and mail to Sassy Shooting Sours at 3030 King William Ave.  West Point, VA. 23181

We really want to make this a great success and we can’t do it without you.  I want $1 more than last year.  Please past this email along all of the Cowboy’s that you know.

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

Will Potter survived his first match without getting strung up!!  It was a close call though!!  We hope everyone enjoyed the match.  It was great to have Okoboji Kid with us again.  We welcomed a new shooter but I think he was a ringer, he was CAD until the last stage.  We really got a surprise from Longhorn Louie and Wanda.  They dropped by the range and it was really great to see him after open heart surgery.  Hopefully, he will be shooting with us again soon.

Congrats to Major B. S. Walker as the Overall Match winner.  Congrats to Hotshod, One Eyed Jane, Will Sonnet, Major B. S. Walker for shooting CAD.

JUST A REMINDER, THAT THERE ARE NO MATCHES NEXT WEEKEND, BEING 5TH SATURDAY AND 5TH SUNDAY!!

Hope all of those shooting W. Va. State had great success.

There will be an email coming, probably tomorrow, about the “Shoot For A Cure” match.  We want this to be a great success so mark your calendar accordingly for October 21.
