Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls,

 

The Mattaponi Sundowners will be holding a match this Sunday, July 15.  The gates will open at 1000, safety meeting at 1200 and shooting starts at 1230.  Please try to get there so we are not at the last trying to get the posse’s set up and entered into the computer.  If you are running late, call Sassy at 804-370-4521.  The match is written by Major B.S. Walker.

 

We will have tents and fans set up as needed.

We thought you might be interested in the SMOKE ON THE MATTAPONI results.  Some of you will get this twice, sorry.  Here is the note and scores that went to those that shot the match.

FIRST, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO “THANK” ALL OF YOU FOR MAKING THIS MATCH A SUCCESS, FOR ALL OF YOUR WORK DURING THE MATCH AND AFTER THE MATCH.  A special “thanks” to Whiskey Mae for all of the work to register the shooters and get sponsors, to Prairie City Slim and One Eyed Jane for writing such a great match and working  before-during-after the match, Doc Pill Filler-B. S. Walker-Wistful for timing and keeping us straight as much as possible and to Potter for all of the worrying and hard work. Thanks to Wistful for setting up a wonderful lunch.  Thanks to Cody Maverick as our posse’ leader.

Now for the match; (although we can’t reward it) CONGRATS to Doc Pill Filler as Overall match winner, CONGRATS to all of the category winners, and Congrats to Major B. S. Walker, Missouri Marshal, Nutmegger, One Eyed Rooster, Ripsaw, Sassy and Wistful for shooting CAD.

Well this one is in the books.  We will take tomorrow off and then start working on the match for next year.  We hope that all of you enjoyed shooting with us and having fun with all of our Cowboys and Cowgirls.  Our next big next will be the “Shoot For A Cure” on October 21.  We sure do hope to see all of you there and more.

It was a bit hot but the fans, tents and help from everyone the day was cooler and smoother.  THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HARD WORK!!  We would like to welcome Red Rider Slim from Roanoke to the Mattaponi Sundowners match.  We enjoyed having you with us.

CONGRATS to Cody Maverick as Overall Match winner.  CONGRATS to Cody Maverick, Cotton Connie, Major B. S. Walker, One Eyed Jane, One Eyed Rooster, Prairie City Slim, Red Cavanaugh, Sassy Shooting Sours, and Wistful McClintock for shooting CAD.  CONGRATS TO THOSE THAT DIDN’T TAKE A SHOTGUN WITH YOU ON STAGE 2 AND GETTING THE BONUS.

We also want to wish everyone HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!

Just a reminder that the Mattaponi Sundowners will be shooting the Virginia State Blackpowder Shootout next Saturday and will NOT be having our normal Saturday match.  If you haven’t signed up but would still like to attend please call Sassy at 804-370-4521 and let her know as soon as possible.  Gates open at 0800, safety meeting at 0930 and shooting starts at 1000.  Lunch is included in the match fee.

14 friends gathered together today at the West Point Gun Club.

Was a beautiful day to be outdoors painting steel with lead.  Sunny and warm with reasonable humidity and a light variable breeze.

Thanks to Major BS Walker for writing 6 fun and challenging stages using a small simple layout.  Great Job BS!

Attached are the stages for Saturday’s match, May 26,  with the Mattaponi Sundowners.  Gates will open at 0830, safety meeting at 0930 and shooting starts at 1000.  The stages were written by Major B. S. Walker. 

Don’t forget the deadline for registering for Smoke On The Mattaponi is June 8th.  Time to get those applications in.  We will have a great match to shoot and lunch is provided after the match, this is included in the match fee.  If you don’t have the applications, you can got to the WPGC web site and get it or just email us at 97graves@gmail.com and we will send it to you. We are still accepting sponsorships for the Smoke match also.

What a wonderful day for shooting!  Where was everyone?  Sure did think we’d see more of you with Father Time coming up.

Congrats to Doc Pill Filler as Overall match winner!  There were NO CAD shooters.  Flatboat?, Just picking on him.  It was a good match and fun.

We look forward to seeing y’all at Father Time and remember that will NOT be a match at Pungo next Saturday.  I don’t know about Cavalier but I’m assuming there will be a match Sunday since we haven’t heard otherwise.

Well, it’s that time again to not blow smoke but to shoot some smoke.  “Smoke On The Mattaponi”, the Virginia State Black Powder match will be held on June 23, 2018.  We plan a fun filled day of shooting a little black powder, sitting around the chuck wagon eating some good vittles and swapping stories. Prairie City Slim will be writing the stages for the match so we know that they will be challenging but fun.

 

Plans are to set up the range for the match the day before the match.  Gates will open at 0800, mandatory safety meeting at 0930 and shooting starts at 1000.  We will shoot 6 fun filled stages without a break then have lunch. As soon as the match is over we plan a hardy lunch that is included in your match fee and then range take down.  Once the range take down is finished we will have the awards ceremony.

 

All established categories are recognized but you must register for the match and your category before the registration deadline of June 8, 2018.  You can still attend and shoot the match after that date but you will have to shoot in an established category in order to be eligible for an award.  Attached is an application for the “Smoke On The Mattaponi” match.  Please complete and return to Whiskey Mae as soon as possible.  We need everyone’s help in completing this and returning it as soon as possible so we can get an accurate head count for the lunch.  We want enough food but of course we don’t want to come up short or have a lot of left overs.

 

SASS requires that all shooters for this match must be a current SASS member in good standing.  Please make sure that your SASS alias is spelled correctly including that your SASS badge number is correct.  All shooters names must be submitted to SASS for approval prior to the match.

We are also accepting sponsorships for this match.

 

If you are interested in sponsoring a stage or any part of this match it will greatly appreciated.  We will be working hard for great sponsorship again this year.
